9 boys, girls basketball players selected for all-district

The 2011-2012 all-district selections for 19-5A boys’ basketball were announced on Wednesday, Mar. 7, and three Cinco Ranch players were awarded with the honor.

Senior forwards Garrett Wilson and Kyle Douglas were selected for the all-district first and second team, respectively. With both playing in all 32 games, Wilson averaged 19.0 points and 1.4 steals per game, while Douglas averaged 6.2 PPG and 5.4 rebounds per game.

However, most notably, late junior point guard Chris Saiz was awarded an honorary first team all-district selection after passing away from injuries suffered in a car accident on Dec. 20. In 17 games, Saiz had averaged 15.6 PPG, 2.4 assists per game, 4.2 RPG, and 2.5 SPG.

Earlier in the year, 19-5A all-district girls’ basketball selections were announced, and the Lady Cougars sent four players to the teams, as well as boasting two individual player awards.

Senior Rice-signee Megan Palmer was named Offensive Player of the Year, averaging 13.0 PPG and 7.8 RPG, while junior post Taylor Williams was chosen as Defensive Player of the Year, registering a staggering 81 blocks for the season.

Senior guard Christy Williams (5.3 PPG, 2.2 APG, 2.2 SPG) and junior forward Angie Moore (8.0 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 1.4 SPG) made the all-district first team, and senior guard Shayne Ortiz (4.5 PPG, 2.6 APG) and sophomore guard Sydney Thomas (6.9 PPG, 1.9 APG) were selected to the all-district second team.
