Cinco outlasts Morton Ranch in a thriller

Cinco+outlasts+Morton+Ranch+in+a+thriller

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a genuine superstar on our hands. The Cinco Ranch Cougars defeated the Morton Ranch Mavericks on Friday September 22nd at Rhodes Stadium and Starting Quarterback Davis Roup is the talk of the town.

Roup had previously been elevated to the starting quarterback position for Varsity after injuries to the previous two starting quarterbacks. He led The Cougars to a 38-28 upset of the Tompkins Falcons two weeks ago and he continued his stellar play as he led The Cougars to a 49-42 victory over Morton Ranch.

Roup and the Cougars got off to a hot start scoring on each of their first two drives with Roup throwing touchdowns to Matthew Courtois and Gavin Beavers, and Morton would manage to cut the lead down to 14-7 when they scored on a 1 yard Touchdown, But Cinco would soon score again on a 6 yard touchdown by Tessiah Young to put Cinco up 21-7.

Cinco and Morton would go back and forth until it was 28-21 in favor of Cinco with 2 minutes remaining in the first half. Fans were on their feet as this game was turning out to be a thriller and everyone was excited to see what happened next.

Roup and the offense would speed down the field all the way to Morton’s 13 yard line where Roup would find two-way star Taytum Johnson with 17 seconds remaining in the half to put Cinco up 35-21.

Morton would score about halfway through the third quarter to make it 35-28. Roup and the Cougars would  further extend their lead when Roup found Taytum Johnson from 12 yards out to put Cinco up 42-28.

Cinco’s defense would come up with a big stop to get the ball back, and Roup would find Gavin Beavers to extend Cinco’s lead to 49-28 with 9 minutes remaining in the game. Morton would score on their next two drives to bring the score up to 49-42.

They would not be able to make a comeback as Cinco would hold them off for the last 5 minutes to win the game and pick up their second streak win.

Davis Roup would finish with 374 yards passing and a whopping 6 touchdown passes which would tie the school record for touchdown passes in a game.

Something that was last accomplished by Gavin Rutherford in 2021. Gavin Beavers also had a great game as he finished with 9 catches for 159 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Cinco has been on fire since Davis Roup took over as quarterback picking up 2 straight wins while scoring over 35 points in each of those games. Roup was also nominated for the Mr Texas football player of the week award which is an incredible accomplishment for a quarterback who was on Junior Varsity a few weeks ago.

Cinco will look to keep rolling against the Mayde Creek Rams on Thursday September 28th at Rhodes stadium.  The Cougars have arrived and are ready to contend for the district crown.
