In the first round of the 2011 Region III bi-district volleyball playoffs, Bellaire defeated Cinco Ranch 3-1 Tuesday night, Nov. 1 at Memorial High School.
The team reached the playoffs after finishing the season in fourth place in District 19-5A with a 17-20 season, losing their last two matches against Morton Ranch and Katy.
In the playoff match, after losing their first game, the girls bounced back with a 27-25 game win, but the Cardinals proved too strong an opponent and won the next two games 25-17, 25-15.
“It was much more emotional than I thought it would be,” senior Kennedy Reid said. “Our team is so close, we’re like a family.”
With their season now over, the team enters the offseason having to prepare for next year without Reid, along with other senior leaders Gloria Sumrow, Bethany Holub, and Shayla Maldonado.
“I’m really grateful for the four years I’ve had,” Reid said. “I have so many great memories, it’s been a blessing. It’s just really sad, it was just really hard to end.”
