Varsity tennis’ star doubles team of junior Maximo Agoglia and senior Andres Corredor will compete at the state tournament after becoming Cinco Ranch tennis’ first ever boys regional champions.
The duo, who have placed first in seven of nine tournaments this spring, defeated the Taylor doubles team of Matt Woolley and Peter Leung—for the fourth time this year—in their final match, with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
“This was probably the best they’ve played against us all season,” Corredor said. “We really had to play well and win a couple of important points that led us to the title.”
Corredor and Agoglia are set to represent Cinco Ranch in the state tournament in Austin on May 9-10.
“In the next couple of weeks, we will be practicing a lot of basics,” Corredor said. “But at the same time, [we will be] looking at some specific shots or strategies that could help in different match situations.”
This is the fourth consecutive year that Cinco Ranch has advanced to State.
“I’m pretty happy with the accomplishments from previous years, but I’m looking forward to what is still left,” Corredor said.
As a senior, these playoffs are Corredor’s last chance to further his legacy at Cinco Ranch. Last year, he reached state as well, and he is honored and grateful to have achieved such success in his high school career.
“None of those past achievements would have been possible without the support of the rest of my team,” Corredor said. “And most importantly, my doubles partner.”
