Playing tennis captured sophomore Raquel Romero’s attention. She started playing other sports but then knew it wasn’t for her. She started playing tennis and fell in love with it.
Raquel Romero is a sophomore at Cinco Ranch High School, She enjoys playing tennis. Ever since she started playing tennis, she has been going with her sister at the courts on the weekends, and after school. She usually plays at the fields at Cinco. She knew everything about tennis and was really good. Even though Raquel was having some difficult times and being stressed with tennis, she never gave up. She knew that if she gave up or stopped trying she wouldn’t get better at the sport she loves the most.
“Don’t give up on something you love before you even try.” Romero said.
Some people might think that tennis is a really easy sport, but it isn’t. You see, tennis is a normal sport where you have to learn how it works, where you hit the ball, how you hit the ball, and how you get the points.
“When you start off you have to meet your opponent, then you each agree who is serving first. Depending on whether you are serving or not, you will be on the other end receiving the ball. Within a match, there are 8 games and your goal is to win 8. ” Romero said.
One of the main challenges is pure mentality, it doesn’t matter if you are playing singles or doubles, mentality plays a leading role. Another challenge she had to face was when she challenged another girl on her team and it was difficult to collaborate with her. She overcame it by keeping a positive attitude with her.
“My coach helped me build my confidence by playing singles with other people on my team getting me used to being on the side of the court by myself.” Romero said.
She believes she is privileged to play. You can see Cinco play at their last game of the season on October 17th at home VS. Jordan.
