Update: The administration for Tompkins High School has announced that the mascot will be the Falcons.
The official name of High School No. 7, Obra D. Tompkins High School, was announced Tuesday by the Katy ISD Board of Trustees.
Obra Tompkins served as principal at Mayde Creek High School for most of his time in Katy ISD and was nominated by several members of the community to be the namesake of the new school.
“He has been called a ‘trailblazer’ among his colleagues and has served in a number of capacities in education during his career,” Katy ISD said, in a press release. “Tompkins retired in 2012 from his most recent position as Katy ISD’s executive director for campus administrative support.”
The press release also announced that Anthony “Tony” Tademy as the new head football coach. Tademy served as assistant coach and defensive coordinator for several university teams such as the University of Houston and Texas Christian University.
“Coach Tademy is bringing more than just extensive experience to Obra D. Tompkins High School,” Tompkins High School principal Mark Grisdale said. “He has coached and developed an impressive roster of players, and has a reputation for integrity and leadership.”
The school colors chosen are navy, red and white and future students of Tompkins High School are currently voting for a mascot.
