College Application Guide: University of Texas at Austin

When you apply for the University of Texas at Austin, one of the required statements you must agree to is the University Code of Conduct:

The core values of The University of Texas at Austin are learning, discovery, freedom, leadership, individual opportunity, and responsibility. Each member of the university is expected to uphold these values through integrity, honesty, trust, fairness, and respect toward peers and community.”

It is this set of values, along with world-renowned research and academic programs, that pulls over 30,000 applicants every year. UT-Austin offers a wide variety of majors from 18 colleges and schools, the most popular majors being Advertising, Biology, Communications, Electrical Engineering, English, History, Political Science, and Psychology. The freshman retention rate is 94%, and the graduation rate is 52%, which is the highest four-year public rate in Texas.


Application Deadline: December 1st. Test scores by December 31st.

Essays: ApplyTexas Essay C and one other

Recommendations: Recommended, but not required. Submit via MyStatus’ document upload.

Resume: Recommended, but not required.

Test Scores: SAT or ACT + writing. Send from College Board or ACT to the college, via your College Board/ACT account

Application Fee: $75, Can be submitted through ApplyTexas

Honors Programs:

Business Honors: Undergrad honors organization based on MBA degree program.

Engineering Honors: Includes Honor Societies dedicated to engineering (Under “Honor Societies”).

Liberal Arts Honors: Lower-division courses bridge into upper-division honors courses

Plan II: Core-curriculum honors major that covers a variety of topics including natural science, literature, philosophy, and society. Based out of the College of Liberal Arts.
