In a showdown that has ignited the rap world, two titans of the genre, Kendrick Lamar and Drake, faced off in an electrifying rap battle that left fans stunned and in awe. It all starts with the song “First Person Shooter Mode” by Drake and L. Cole which was launched in October 6, 2023. In this song, J.Cole states that the big three of rap are Drake, Kendrick and himself. Yet Kendrick didn’t enjoy the comment since he was mentioned for mocking reasons. Their fighting had been going for since 2013, but this track was the one to give it a push into an actual issue between them.
Kendrick joined a Collab song from Future and Metro Boomin which was released in March 22, 2024. In one of his verses he says there’s no big 3 in the industry, and that its just himself who’s on top of them, specially Drake. Many connected this verse as a response t0 Drake and J.Cole’s track. This marked the official beginning of the Rap Battle between Kendrick and Drake. He also compares himself and Drake to Prince and Michael Jackson, respectively, rapping, “Prince outlived Mike Jack.”
On April 13, Drake released “Push Ups” firing back at Kendrick Lamar when it was least expected. Drake featured the lyrics, “You ain’t in no Big Three, SZA got you wiped down, Travis got you wiped down, Savage got you wiped down / Like your label, boy, you in a scope right now / And you gon’ feel the aftermath of what I write down / I’m at the top of the mountain, so you tight now”. He also wet after Lamar’s work in the pop industry, like his collab with Maroon 5 and Taylor Swift as well as throwing a stray dig at Rick Ross. The song went viral after the first 3 hours of it being released, and people were inciting Kendrick, telling him to strike back. Drake also released a now deleted single on April 19 called “Taylor Made Me Freestyle” While waiting on Lamar’s response to “Push Ups,” What no one liked was that he used the A.I.-generated voices of Lamar’s idols Tupac and Snoop Dogg to go after him, earning a cease and desist from Shakur’s estate.
An answer was heard from Kendrick on April 30, with the song “Euphoria”, in which he speaks in a hateful manner against Drake after this one angered him with his last song leaving no stone left unturned. The verses attack Drake’s parenting (“I got a son to raise, but I can see you know nothin’ ’bout that”), his rumored plastic surgery (“Didn’t tell ’em where you get your abs from”), and his rap abilities (“You not a rap artist, you a scam artist with the hopes of bеing accepted”) and called him out in his use of AI. One thing was certain, and that was that Drake unleased the wrath of Kendrick, this one now being unstoppable.
“Family Matters” by Drake was released on May 3rd, where he stated that Kendrick Lamar’s child was actually being raised by his manager and how Kendrick was physically abusive to his wife in the past, calling him a coward for doing such things to a woman and a fake, and this, was the calm before the storm, ladies and gentlemen. Because what Kendrick would release as a response, would make everyone go wild.
‘Meet the Grahams” by Kendrick Lamar was released just yesterday, where he not only attacks Drake, but also his family in general. In the first 10 seconds, he speaks to Adonis, Drake’s 6 year old son, telling him how sorry he was that Drake was his father. He also speaks to Drake’s mother, telling her that her son is a manipulator, and horrible person. Kendrick Lamar also revealed that Drake was hiding an 11 year old daughter, and called a “deadbeat” for not stepping up as her father. He also exposes Drake’s gambling addiction and other illicit affairs. The song went viral after an hour of being released, and everyone on social media went wild. Not even 24 hours later, he released another song called “Nothing Like Us” where he reveals more illict things from Drake, burying him even deeper on the ground.
Drake hasn’t said anything in regards to the songs and what was said of him. This feels like Tupac and Biggie all over again, don’t you agree? We hope you enjoyed this timeline of events regarding the fight of Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Now, in your perspective, who won?
