Senior Avery Wang shows the combination of the monochrome look through her matching butterfly earrings and striped blue dress. Her butterfly earrings is a current reflection of butterfly aesthetics and it also ties back to Cottage Core and Prairie dressing. These trends have been growing on platforms like TikTok because of the idealized lifestyle of living on a cottage or farm that generation z had started because of the current pandemic leading to Gen Z kids wanting to live in a more rural lifestyle in order to get closer to nature for environmental reasons and being able to social distance but still manage to go outside without getting in contact with masses of people that live in urbanized areas. The Butterfly Aesthetic has been trending since 2018 but it has now magnified due to other new aesthetics like Soft Girl and Cottage Core. The butterfly aesthetic has also been popularized from the early 2000s fashions containing graphic crop top t-shirts.
