The library now features a new student “Power Bar,” but this is the type of power bar that provides energy to electronic devices, not a student’s body. Students can enjoy the brand new counter bar inside the library entrance and take advantage of a recharge for personal devices while recharging their brains with nearby reading material.

Librarian Denise Bassham and Library Aid Penny Mather announced the new addition Tuesday. While the project is not completely finished, what has been accomplished so far has taken six months, according to Bassham.

“I wanted to update the library space, where students had a comfortable (and appealing) place to come before school, during the day, [and] after school,” Bassham said. “My goal is to have students say they come to the library because they want to, and not just because they have to.”

The power bar was funded by donations from across the school, including the Journalism Department, National Honor Society and Student Council, which provided, in total, 10 matching stools. The seat cushions of the stools were installed by FFA students.

“Everyone who walks in the door comments on it immediately,” Bassham said. “I’ve heard them say that it’s modern looking and a cool place to hang out with friends in the morning, while charging their phone or working on homework.”

The project will be completed later with  an artwork mural on the wall, currently being designed by advanced art students and fine arts teacher Patricia Kuhn.
