Have you heard of the band having their own Homecoming? BOCO, a popular tradition for the Band and Encore at Cinco Ranch High School, is an exclusive event just for them.

“BOCO is a special event just for Band and Encore because of all the events and games we play at. We also typically only have BOCO when we have competitions on Homecoming but they decided to have an extra one this year,” freshman Isabella Rios  said.

BOCO is a dance created for members to attend because of band competitions on Homecoming. Freshman Anika Bowen said she was really excited for BOCO because of what the upperclassmen said about how fun it was.

Band Homecoming is an exciting way to have fun with your friends and other band members. It is similar to normal homecoming with a homecoming court and dance.

The band has 4 different categories of Homecoming Court for each grade; Freshman – Senior Prince and Freshman – Senior Princess. Every band and encore member gets the chance to vote for their prince and princess.

They also dance and dress up. They provide food for everyone and get a DJ. This is also the chance for Band and Encore to hang out with one another and have fun with everyone.

“BOCO is more fun because we get to hang out with everyone and we get to just be ourselves. A lot of my friends are in band and I rarely get to hang out with them and have fun outside of band and school,” Bowen said.

Some people prefer BOCO to normal Homecoming just because they feel there is too much pressure. BOCO is a chance for you to act normal around others who are used to you being yourself and there is no pressure to it.

Picking out your outfit is a big part of Homecoming, no matter who is hosting it. “I loved getting to pick out my dress and heels. I went shopping with my mom and picked everything out.” Freshman Sofia Ibarra said.

Most teenage girls like getting to go shopping for clothes, especially when it is for a fancy event. They get to pick out shoes, a dress, accessories, and their hair and makeup style. BOCO is just like Homecoming in that sense.

Their theme is based off of their show of the season. This year, their theme is “Walking on Sunshine” because their main music feature in the show is “Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves.

BOCO is really similar to Homecoming. Band Homecoming is just a dance exclusively for Band and Encore members of the Cinco Ranch Cougar Band.
