After battling a soggy field, turnovers and slow start, the Cougar football squad cruised away from a scrappy Strake Jesuit team en route to a 37-13 win Saturday at Rhodes Stadium. The win keeps Cinco’s regular season record perfect at 9-0 and sets up the perennial match-up with the Katy Tigers for the district championship Saturday morning with kickoff set for 11 a.m.

The Cougars fell behind the Crusaders 10-6 after the first quarter, but a strong 17 point second quarter and a defense that forced three turnovers in the game propelled the varsity team to victory.

The offense rolled up 445 total yards including 295 through the air. Senior QB Russell Morrison completed 75 percent of his passes and spread the ball to seven different receivers in the game.

The win clinches a UIL playoff berth for the Cougars as they prepare for the district showdown with Katy Saturday when both teams bring undefeated  9-0 records and Top-20 state rankings into the game.
