Varsity FB opens ’15 season in thrilling style

Varsity FB opens the 2015 season with a final-second victory over Cy-Ranch 27-24.

The varsity football team scored on its first play and last play en route to a 27-24 win over Cy-Ranch Friday, Aug. 28 at the Berry Center.

Senior Donny Smith kicked a 25-yard field goal as the clock expired to clinch the victory over last year’s 6A State runner-up. Senior Devion Johnson scored two touchdowns including a 78-yard scamper on the first play from scrimmage. Senior QB Russell Morrison ran for 132 yards to pace the Cougar running game. Morrison added 68 yards through the air on 6-12 passing and the Cinco offense racked up 316 total yards in the season debut.

Next up, the Cougar varsity looks to avenge another loss from last season as the squad faces Jersey Village in the home opener at Rhodes Stadium Friday night at 7 p.m.
