The National Merit Scholarship Corporation named 13 students as National Merit Semifinalists on September 28 for their high scores on the PSAT in Texas last year. 

Out of 1.6 million students who take the PSAT, only 16,000 are selected as semifinalists. They will have a chance to win a $2500 scholarship if they advance to finals. 

The semifinalists are Erika Alvarez, Gabriela Bastidas Reinoso, Lucas Cai, James Chong, Vincent Do, Lucas Fuentes Malta, Kyna McGill, Rafael Munoz Cervantes, Alexander Pham, Zara Shipchandler, Avery Wang, Daniel Yang and Samuel Yuan.
